Surf Fishing Forecast: 7/19-7/25

It’s the middle of July now and the surf has shown signs of laying down nicely over the last three weeks. Seaweed was an issue for me early last week, but toward the back half of the week, it cleared out at most of our beaches. The surf forecast is showing no signs of picking up anytime soon which is great news. Expect 1-2’s and 2-3’s for the most part through the county. It looks as if the southern section of the county will provide the lowest surf, but even through Oceanside, the highest I’d expect it to be is 3-4 feet on any given day this week.

Winds are expected to come in from WNW and WSW for all our local beaches and should remain in single digits (mph) in the mornings and evenings with low teens in the afternoons on some days

If seaweed becomes an issue again, I’d recommend fishing the falling tide through the low and to choose your spot accordingly. If seaweed is a nonfactor, I like the evening sessions lined up with the rising tide to and through sunset.

We have a grunion run approaching that begins on Saturday (7/24) so if you’re looking to get some night fishing in, that’s the time to do it. Be prepared though and again, choose your beach accordingly as many SD beaches can’t take super high tides. Tides will be surpassing 7-feet at some locations.
