Penn Pursuit Spinning Reel Anti-Reverse Problem Fixed
I’ve been a big fan of Penn spinning fishing reels. When they came out with the Pursuit III and added the HT-100 drag system, I was sold. Sure, it’s not the highest quality reel. There will always be better, higher quality, more expensive fishing reels to buy. But, the bottom line, the Penn Pursuit III 4000 series reel gets the job done for me and it’s pretty dang smooth.
Anti-reverse Problem with Penn Spinning Reels
If there’s one complaint I’ve had (or heard) about Penn spinning reels, and specifically the pursuit, it’s the anti-reverse. The problem is that after some time, the anti-reverse on the pursuit has a tendency to fail. The result, a reel that spins both ways… NOT GOOD.
So what’s the problem and what’s the fix? The specific problem is likely due to one piece that’s gone bad. That piece is called a clutch and it can be purchased (clutch/sleeve assembly) at mysticparts.com. The ID number associated with the part is 98C-3000SG Clutch/Sleeve Assembly. Keep in mind this part is specifically for the 4000 series and a few other models. If you have a bigger or smaller reel, go to mystciparts.com and search for your Penn reel.
Once you’ve got your piece in the mail, you’re good to start fixing. It should only take about 10-20 minutes to get your reel fixed and back in action. Below is a video that will show you exactly how to fix the Penn spinning reel anti-reverse problem.
