Best Polarized Sunglasses for Surf Fishing: Cheap and Waterproof

best polarized sunglasses for surf fishing

A quality pair of sunglasses is essential for any style of fishing. Every angler has different characteristics they look for in their sunglasses. Are they polarized, waterproof, durable, affordable? The one characteristic that simply isn’t debatable is polarization. Polarized sunglasses are a must. In this article, we’ll be highlighting the two best places to find the best polarized sunglasses for surf fishing at an affordable price.

From all the polarized sunglasses that I’ve tried, I’ve essentially selected two options. The first is for those of you looking for polarized sunglasses that get the job done for the least amount of money. The second option is not as cheap but still extremely affordable… but they’re waterproof and more durable.

Sunglasspot.com Polarized Sunglasses

This one is my go to for polarized sunglasses. Take a look at the website sunglassspot.com and search through their polarized sunglasses selection for some pf the cheapest polarized sunglasses you can possibly find.

Personally, I like their 80’s style polarized sunglasses. You can find them here. Take a look at the image below for what they look like.

I’ve used these for the past 4 years or so and I have no complaints for the price. Full disclosure though, I’ve gone through 15-20 pairs and now buy them by the tens.

Pros

  • Extremely Cheap
  • Literally Best Deal You’ll Find… Anywhere
  • 100% Polarized
  • Love the Look
  • UV 400

Cons

  • Not Waterproof
    • If you get them wet and dry them off, they’ll be fine. But, if you get them wet and let them stay wet for 4 plus hours, the lens will peel. I’m not sure if it’s a tint layer or whatever it might be… it won’t hold up to prolonged water exposure. It became a problem when I would fish and then store them in a closed dollar store sunglass case. Since the moisture was trapped in the case, it had a really bad effect on the glasses. For that reason, I keep them in my car and no longer in a case in my bag.
  • Not Very Durable
    • they’re a typical all plastic set of sunglasses. For some reason, they’re known to break at the joint every now and then.

All that said though, these things are perfect for me and they’re still my go to. I fish around 100 times a year and when sessions get a little wild, my gear doesn’t always get “taken care of”. Breaking a $5 pair of sunglasses isn’t the end of the world for me… especially when I have a box of 9 more at home.

If you do the math, that’s four years of fishing 100 times a year (400 sessions + daily life), and I’ve spent around $100 on polarized sunglasses. Shipping is I think another $5 per order.

Rivbos Polarized Waterproof Sunglasses

Rivbos are a brand I was introduced to a little while ago while trying to find a quality pair of waterproof polarized sunglasses. I don’t have as much experience with them, but I can attest, they’re 100% polarized, waterproof, and durable. I don’t have as much to say about them as I do the ones from sunglassspot.com, but I’ll leave you with the pros and cons.

Pros

  • 100% Polarized
  • Waterproof
  • Affordable
  • Very Durable
  • UV 400
  • Impact Resistnace

Cons

  • Not As Inexpensive
  • Could Have Better Style Selection
